Welcome to Waikato

The University of Waikato campuses are located in North Island, New Zealand. At the University, you will live and study in a welcoming and inclusive community of students from around the world.


Hamilton campus

Waikato Pathways College is located at the University's campus in Hamilton, one of New Zealand’s fastest growing cities. Located in the centre of North Island, Hamilton is the fourth largest city in New Zealand and is just a one and a half hour drive south of Auckland.


Living in Hamilton

The centre of Hamilton is just a short and pleasant bike ride away from the main Waikato campus. It has a relaxed and welcoming feel, with a vibrant multicultural community immersed in the indigenous Māori culture.

The city has an exciting food scene reflective of its multicultural community. You will also find stunning public gardens to explore and cultural festivals throughout the year. Hamilton has a lower cost of living compared to other cities in New Zealand, allowing you to enjoy your life as a student here to the fullest.


What to do in Hamilton

Hamilton is surrounded by outstanding beauty, with world-class bike trails, surf beaches and award-winning restaurants. The city itself is a gateway to many of the beautiful features of the Waikato area, including the world famous surfing beaches at Raglan and the Hobbiton movie set at Matamata. For those who like to ski, the high-quality ski slopes of Whakapapa and Turoa at Mount Ruapehu are just a few hours’ drive away.

Sport plays a big part in life in the Waikato region. You can experience exciting outdoor activities such as surfing, black water rafting and bungee jumping, on your doorstep. Seeing a rugby game at Waikato Stadium is an experience not to be missed.

Tauranga campuses

Once you have successfully completed your programme, you will have the option to continue your studies at the University campus in Tauranga.

Tauranga is New Zealand’s fifth largest city and one of the country’s most sought after locations. It is a cosmopolitan city, home to around 130,000 people, and is well-known for its blue skies, warm climate, sparkling harbour and relaxed lifestyle.

The Bay of Plenty region boasts miles of beaches, forests, rivers and wineries, as well as great shopping and cafés. The region has many of its own unique cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
