Waikato Pathways College

International groups

An introduction to New Zealand

With over 25 years of experience, the University of Waikato Pathways College is a leader in the field of providing unique and specialist English language programmes for international students. Some join an existing English language programme, while some have a tailor-made, English language learning experience based on their personal requirements. Groups are able to take part in extracurricular activities, weekend excursions and talks from experts in the local community.

About the programme

The programme will provide an introduction to the geography, history, peoples and culture of New Zealand. This could include trips to famous sites of the Waikato region, such as Māori cultural experience at Rotorua, Waitomo glow worms caves and visits to the beachside towns of Coromandel and Raglan, and experience traditional arts and crafts such as wood carving, bone carving and flax weaving.

The course will provide an introduction to the geography, history, peoples and culture of New Zealand. You will have the chance to:

  • Hear from guest speakers from the university and attend lectures or seminars
  • Participate in talks with local businesses and field trips
  • Meet and work with both local and international students studying at the University of Waikato
  • Take part in clubs and sport activities, such as rugby and swimming
  • Learn more about specific topics such as Agribusiness and the New Zealand culture

During your programme, you will be able visit key tourist attractions in the Waikato region and learn traditional arts and crafts, whilst improving your English. You will also participate in a series of talks, lectures and demonstrations at the University of Waikato.
