Life in Hamilton

Hamilton is the fourth largest city in New Zealand. It has a relaxed and welcoming feel, with a vibrant multicultural community.

Located in the centre of North Island, Hamilton is surrounded by natural beauty. You can be at the beach, in the forest or the mountains in just over an hour. New Zealand’s largest city Auckland is just a short distance away.

Sport plays a big part in life in the Waikato region. You can experience exciting outdoor activities such as surfing, black water rafting and bungee jumping on your doorstep. Seeing a rugby game at Waikato Stadium is an experience not to be missed.

We offer a number of pathways to the University, designed for international students. If you’re a domestic student, you can apply to enter the Certificate of University Preparation (CUP) programme also delivered by the Waikato Pathways College.

Successful completion of the Foundation Studies programme will guarantee you entry to most undergraduate degrees at the University of Waikato. The programme will help you develop your core subject knowledge, along with essential study skills.

The programme offers a number of flexible study options for students who need to improve their English language skills to study at the University of Waikato. Successful completion will guarantee entry to the Foundation programme or most degree programmes.

General English Programme

This programme is designed for students who wish to improve their everyday English and is suitable for students preparing to enter the academic English programme. The programme includes core language and vocabulary skills, fluency and accuracy in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
